Trip to Iowa

We had a very good but short visit to Iowa and so glad that we went and were able to spend some qualtity time with Cece and Al. The weather couldn't have been better. Quite low temps for last of July but not complaining. We drove up the Avenue of the Saints from Wentzville, MO to Iowa City where we got on I 80. Wrong decision on Friday afternoon around 4pm. Between the trucks and the pick ups who thought they owned the road and also were trying to get some place they should have been an hour ago was pretty hectic. Think it was even worse than I 270 around St. Louis. Was good to hit the country highway heading up to Colo and Nevada. Saturday afternoon they took us for a long ride over around Boone country side. The fields of corn and beans are really lush. Corn is starting to tassel so many color hues. The wild flowers along the highways and roads were in full bloom. The Queen Anne's Lace was very prevalent. So along with the Cone Flowers, Brown Eye Susans and other summer flowers it was beautiful. However they were not too thrilled with the sweet corn we had for dinner but sure did taste good to us. Coming home we took the finally finished four lane highway to Pella, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa and into Mt. Pleasant where we picked up the Avenue of Saints heading south. The only town we went through was Hannibal. Those of you that lived in Iowa low those many years ago need to come back and enjoy this time of year. However can't guarantee the weather will be so mild. Am sure that Tim and Lonita have enjoyed the milder summer. No telling what August will bring.
